Measures to support accessibility
The described and Captioned Media Program takes the following measures to ensure accessibility of dcmp.org:
- Include accessibility as part of our mission statement.
- Include accessibility throughout our internal policies.
- Integrate accessibility into our procurement practices.
- Provide continual accessibility training for our staff.
- Assign clear accessibility targets and responsibilities.
- Employ formal accessibility quality assurance methods.
- Include people with disabilities in our design, integration, and testing processes.
- Include people with disabilities in production and/or quality control of audio description, captioning, and American Sign Language.
Conformance status
The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) defines requirements for designers and developers to improve accessibility for people with disabilities. It defines three levels of conformance: Level A, Level AA, and Level AAA. dcmp.org is fully conformant with WCAG 2.1 level AA. Fully conformant means that the content fully conforms to the accessibility standard without any exceptions.
Additional accessibility considerations
Although our goal is WCAG 2.1 Level AA conformance, some videos in our library include American Sign Language, audio description, and captions, which meet Level AAA.

Limitations and alternatives

- User-submitted content may not be fully accessibile: User uploaded images may not have text alternatives because we cannot ensure the quality of contributions from users.
Assessment approach
The Described and Captioned Media Program assessed the accessibility of dcmp.org by the following approaches:
- Self-evaluation
- The DCMP website is developed using an extensive design system, or "pattern library" that is first tested in isolation, again during integration, and again after integration.
- The DCMP pattern library is continually updated with new designs that are tested for accessibility.
