Through the eyes of Heather Artinian, a precocious six year old, we are witness to a family battle over a controversial medical device, the cochlear implant, which would help Heather to hear. Some of her family members celebrate the implant as a long overdue cure for deafness while others fear it will destroy their cherished sign language and way of life. A 2001 Academy Award nominee for Best Documentary Feature.

This documentary is a must see for every single interpreter that comes into an ITP with the intention of working with deaf people and the deaf community. Their struggle is real. The hurt is real.

VERY good title to use for a unit on cochlear implants. It shows the historical reaction to implants and how far we've come as a Deaf community with implants.

I found " Sound and Fury" to be a wonderful, educational, documentary for anyone who is learning about Deaf culture. It was emotional, yet clear and concise.
As a student of ASL for the first time, it hepled put Cochlear Implants into perspective.
I'm pleased that my Professor at Suny Empire State College gave us the link to this media site. It is a great resource for students as well as anyone in the public, wanting to learn about so many different things.

This documentary shows freshman students a side of deaf culture most have never seen, and shows families responding to the cochlear implant surgery. Very effective to use in my module on hearing impairment and deafness.

Show both sides of the Cochlear Implant controversy allowing students to see from both the Deaf view point and the hearing view point.
