In this colorfully illustrated story, Sam goes with his mother to Chinatown on Chinese New Year's Day to spend his traditional gift of lucky money on whatever he chooses. Despite the fun and excitement of celebration in the streets, Sam is disappointed that the money is not enough for anything he wants-until he meets a stranger who helps him see how lucky his money really is. Based on the book by Karen Chinn, Cornelius Van Wright, and Ying-Hwa Hu.

    I show Sam and The Lucky Money to my students every year to enrich my Lunar New Year unit. This is a fantastic book/video to teach students about the traditions of this worldly holiday. It also teaches the students compassion for those who are unfortunate.
