Denver, CO, November 15 - In a landmark initiative set to launch on December 1st, Imagination Storybooks, previously known as Imagination Videobooks, is becoming "Imagination Storybooks by DCMP," heralding a new era of inclusivity in children's literature.
Access: Working With Students Who Are Blind or Have Low Vision Module is designed for teachers working in general education who have students who are blind or have low vision. It is meant only as an overview and will touch on some of the most important aspects of educating students who have vision loss. It will provide resources for teachers to learn more on various topics.

The BADIE contest promotes the Benefits of Audio Description in Education by inviting young people who are blind or visually impaired to view a video with audio description and write about their experience. Audio description is a secondary audio track with additional narration that describes vital visual information. The contest is hosted by the American Council of the Blind’s Audio Description Project (ADP) and the Described and Captioned Media Program (DCMP).
Braille proficiency represents competency, independence, and equality for students who are blind and have low vision. When parents, teachers, and even peers learn to sight-read braille it provides an added level of support to these students.
SPARTANBURG, SC, August 6, 2021 – The Described and Captioned Media Program (DCMP) is excited to announce the debut of Emily Graslie’s “Art Lab,” the first educational video series on YouTube to feature audio description through a new pilot program. Audio description is a secondary audio track with additional narration that describes vital visual information for people who are blind and visually impaired.
The Described and Captioned Media Program partnered with the American Council of the Blind (ACB) with the objective of enhancing the educational description guidelines, the Description Key, through results of a "STEM Description Vocabulary Project for Early Learners." This project involved assembling a group of educators, consisting of representatives from educational programs throughout the U.S., who compiled a list of words most commonly and consistently used as grade-level specific vocabulary.
Each school year brings new challenges for parents and their children. Whether you're working on an IEP, juggling remote learning with classroom instruction, learning ASL, or building math and literacy skills, DCMP can make this time a little less stressful with our free resources.

Children often hear the question, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” They may respond by sharing their goals of wanting to become an astronaut, rock star, princess, or president. While these professions are unlikely outcomes for most children, we try not to discourage their dreams. Do we offer the same level of encouragement to students with disabilities? We should. There are many role models for these students who show us anything is possible.
