In this episode, students explore Bukhara in Uzbekistan and Palmyra in Syria. Bukhara once prospered as an important resting point along the Silk Road. The town retains the vestiges of the old Silk Road era with its many historic structures. Palmyra was a trade city connecting the East and the West, which flourished under Queen Zenobia. Situated in the approximate center of the Syrian Desert, the caravan city of Palmyra prospered under the protection of the Romans as a trade station on the Silk Road. Part of the “World Heritage” series.
