Based on supermodel Georgie Badiel’s childhood, a young girl dreams of bringing clean drinking water to her African village. With its wide sky and warm earth, Princess Gie Gie’s kingdom is a beautiful land, but clean drinking water is scarce in her small village. Every morning, she rises before the sun to make the long journey to the well. Instead of a crown, she wears a heavy pot on her head to collect the water. After the voyage home, she wishes for a day when her village will have cool, crystal-clear water of its own. Based on the book by Susan Verde and Georgie Badiel. Illustrated by Peter H. Reynolds.

The Weston Woods video of Water Girl captured the emotional and social content of the text. Words appeared in clear contrast to the illustrations. The narrators voice added to storytelling. I have never come across resources that described the illustrations before and am so pleased that this is option was available so that my blind students could have a sense of the pictorial elements of the story.
