This celebration's origins date back to the 14th century uprising against the Mongols. The rebels wrote the call to revolt on pieces of paper and hid them in pastries known as mooncakes. Today, during the festival, people eat mooncakes, and parents allow children to stay up late. Families also prepare a special meal and light paper lanterns.
