Early Motown performers brought their music to Charlie’s Place in the days before integration. It provided a place for African-American artists of the day to perform. This segment highlights the racial tensions in South Carolina. One evening in 1950, Ku Klux Klan members shot up Charlie's Place, and Charlie Fitzgerald was beaten.
