This was a dark time for the Waccamaw people, as the Spanish colonized Waccamaw land without regard of the Waccamaw culture. English Carolinian colonists raided the Spanish missions and took Waccamaw people and Africans as slaves for their plantations. These groups of people would establish themselves in the Carolina colonies, where descendants still thrive today.
