Examines the desparate circumstances of North Korean refugees who have illegally crossed the border to China to escape famine conditions which have existed in North Korea since 1995. As many as 800,000 have crossed into China in search of food, most soon returning to their own country. Shows how those who have chosen to stay survive by hiding in caves, under floorboards, in basements, or on the streets. Includes interviews with abandoned children who live on the streets and parents who had to hand their children over to a Chinese orphanage.
