She is the daughter of Mbapane, a renowned traditional healer who receives patients from far and wide. His village compound consists of a grouping of dwellings in an area of rolling hills. She witnesses and helps her father in the rituals of healing, and she beats a drum during which dancers fall into a trance and ancestors speaking through them to help heal unknown illnesses.
