Construction of Chartres Cathedral, the symbol of French Gothic architecture, began in the 12th Century and was completed in the 13th Century. Adorned with two towering steeples, colorful stained glass windows, and Gothic style sculpture, the cathedral holds a very important place in the history of art. In the Byzantine era, the city of Thessalonika in northern Greece prospered as the second most important city of the Byzantine Empire after Constantinople. The city is home to a large number of Byzantine and early Christian monuments. Part of the “World Heritage” series.
